Qatar Airways, Qatar Duty Free and Hamad International Airport are gearing up for this year’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 – and the opening of the highly anticipated Hamad International Airport (HIA) expansion – with a flurry of flight promotions, store and restaurant openings, and customer service innovations.

In a special series leading up to the football extravaganza and expansion opener, The Moodie Davitt Report devotes exclusive and extensive coverage to all the key developments.

The expansion will bring passenger capacity to over 58 million. HIA’s growth will continue after the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, with work on a second expansion that will bring passenger capacity to over 60 million.

Commenting on the inauguration of the Oryx Garden Hotel, HIA Chief Operating Officer Engr. Badr Mohammed Al Meer said, “We are delighted to announce the opening of our second airport hotel at HIA. This is just one of the many new offerings our airport will unveil as part of our exciting expansion plans.

“The Oryx Garden Hotel adds another sustainable, world-class facility to the world’s best airport, providing a relaxing environment for guests to unwind and experience the extraordinary destination that is HIA.”

The hotel has 100 rooms ranging from king to twin plus suites. It offers guests free next-generation Wi-Fi and immediate access to a variety of nearby retail and culinary options.

All rooms are located within minutes of the boarding gates. The hotel boasts a modern and contemporary design, designed to appeal to both business and leisure travelers, and can be booked 24 hours a day for up to 24 hours.

Guests of the Oryx Garden Hotel can take advantage of the Oryx Airport Hotel’s Vitality Health and Fitness Center, located in the airport’s South Plaza, near the famous Lamp Bear art installation.

Passengers can also use a 25-meter swimming pool, gym, spa and squash court during their transfer. To reach the Oryx Airport Hotel, simply take the passenger train from the north and south squares of the airport.

HIA’s two airport hotels have implemented various green initiatives in order to achieve 100% eco-friendly operations.

Hotels will not use plastic water bottles, opting instead for eco-friendly water containers. Other green initiatives include adopting recycled paper for all hotel print media and operations, and replacing plastic bags with biodegradable ones.

For hotel room amenities, plastic cotton swabs have been replaced by bamboo cotton swabs packaged in cardboard boxes; plastic coffee cups replaced with recyclable paper cups; and plastic lids replaced with plant-derived polylactic acid lids.

Plastic bottles for shampoos and body lotions have also been replaced with EcoPure PET biodegradable bottles. Plastic dental and shaving kits have been replaced by starch toothbrushes and shaving utensils, while plastic slippers, combs and shower caps are available in eco-friendly forms.
