Spain issues new Covid vaccine guidelines for UK tourists ahead of mid-term

British holidaymakers planning a sunny break in Spain may need to receive the Covid booster shot as early as early next month.

Spain has announced that from February 1 it will only admit travelers with vaccination certificates showing they have been fully vaccinated against the virus in the previous 270 days.

Anyone who received their last dose of the vaccine more than nine months ago will need a booster to enter the country, reports SchengenVisaInfo.com.

The booster shot must also have been given at least 14 days before travel and proof of the third dose must be on the NHS app or document used for entry.

The country’s official travel website, Safe Spain, said: ‘As of February 1, 2022, to travel to Spain with a vaccination certificate, the certificate must have been issued by the competent authorities of the country of origin at least 14 days after the date of administration of the last dose of the complete vaccination cycle, as long as the last dose of this vaccination cycle is not more than 270 days old.

The move means holidaymakers planning to visit mainland Spain, the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands for a mid-term break should check their vaccination status before travelling.

All arrivals must also complete a Spanish government health check form prior to arrival. This can be completed online or submitted on paper prior to departure.

Arrivals at airports and ports will be asked to present a QR code proving they have completed the form.

Fully vaccinated travelers do not need to take a test before traveling or upon arrival in Spain from the UK.

Tourists traveling to Spain are unable to use proof of recovery from Covid-19 to enter the country.
