ILM Airport Hotel Partners signs a lease at ILM Business Park

A 35-year ground lease for ILM Airport Hotel Partners was approved at the April 6 meeting of the New Hanover County Airport Authority. The developers plan to work alongside IHG Hotels & Resorts to build a Crowne Plaza hotel.

“We look forward to working alongside IHG Hotels & Resorts to bring Crowne Plaza Wilmington International Airport into the ILM Business Park,” said Andrew Weiss, developer at ILM Airport Hotel Partners.

“Continued development of the ILM Business Park, growth in airport passenger numbers and proximity to downtown have made this project a home run,” added Chip Weiss, Jr., developer at ILM. Airport Hotel Partners.

Crowne Plaza Wilmington International Airport’s ideal location will welcome business and leisure travelers to one of the largest cities in southeastern North Carolina. The hotel will be the first hotel to open in the 140-acre ILM Business Park, located steps from the Wilmington International Airport terminal and less than four miles from Wilmington’s historic district. Additionally, the hotel continues Crowne Plaza’s heritage of successful destination properties strategically located near major international airports and travel hubs.

Donna Girardot, chair of the New Hanover County Airport Authority, said, “We are delighted that ILM Airport Hotel Partners has selected ILM Business Park and is investing $40 million in the project to develop a Crowne Plaza hotel. We sought an upscale hotel for our ILM Business Park that would provide a convenient, productive and relaxing option for ILM business and leisure travelers. With the variety of rooms, meeting and event spaces, dining options – including a ground floor restaurant and a rooftop restaurant and bar – we are confident that the new Crowne International Airport Plaza Wilmington will be used by ILM’s growing passengers and community. ”

“With this investment in the ILM business park, it is expected that 150 jobs will be generated during the construction phase, and then 125 permanent jobs will be generated in the hotel and restaurant,” explained Girardot.

The six-story, 150-room hotel will host a variety of spaces and amenities to meet any business or leisure needs. Guests will experience Crowne Plaza’s unique design style that integrates business and personal needs, with coworking areas and lounging spaces for productivity and catering. Crowne Plaza Wilmington International Airport will additionally offer flexible all-day dining at its rooftop restaurant, lounge and bar, allowing guests to eat or snack while conducting business or personal activities. Business travelers and meeting planners can also take advantage of the hotel’s more than 5,000 square feet of event space, including 3,500 square feet of meeting space to host successful live and hybrid meetings.

“The Crowne Plaza brand has long been synonymous with exceptional business travel, and as the lines between personal and professional travel continue to blur, we look forward to offering an inspiring new alternative to any guest visiting the Wilmington area. “said Ginger Taggart, Vice President, Global Upscale Brand – Crowne Plaza Brand Marketing, IHG Hotels & Resorts. “We are thrilled to be working alongside Andrew Weiss and Chip Weiss, Jr. again to bring this renowned brand to the region and make Crowne Plaza Wilmington International Airport a modern destination for purposeful engagement.”

“The airport is often the first impression visitors have of New Hanover County, and that impression will be even better and stronger with the addition of a hotel to MLI,” said Julia Olson-Boseman, board chair. New Hanover County Commissioners. “It will further enhance the travel experience to and from our community, while providing something for residents of our area, including luxurious accommodations, plenty of meeting space and restaurants with a view. It’s an exciting project that brings new opportunities and growth, and we can’t wait to see the doors open for ILM’s first hotel.

In the past 6 months alone, 75 acres of new land leases have been signed at ILM Business Park, including 1 million square feet of warehouse space as well as cold storage and distribution space for life sciences and pharmaceutical industry, 150 hotel rooms and 5,000 square feet of meeting and event space. “We are delighted to see the growth occurring at the Business Park and on behalf of the airport team, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to ILM Airport Hotel Partners for selecting ILM Business Park for the new Crowne Plaza Wilmington International Airport hotel. We look forward to a long-term partnership,” said Jeff Bourk, Airport Manager.
